The Prophet Isaiah by Michelangelo (c. 1508-12) Sistine Chapel, Vatican

Isaiah: Comfort My People

Scripture: Isaiah 40:27-31 (NRSV)

Isaiah has been called the Fifth Gospel and is quoted 86 times in the New Testament. Isaiah, like all the prophets, starts with doom but always ends with deliverance. To experience a spiritual renovation you have to first go through a demolition. After declaring judgment, Isaiah proclaims redemption for God’s people–just wait upon the Lord and you will rise up with wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. If you ever have been or are emotionally, spiritually, physically, or relationally deflated, defeated, depleted, dilapidated, discouraged, disoriented, disappointed, or just plain dissed—Isaiah is for you!
