“O Come, O Come Emmanuel, an Advent Study“ Design by Lauren Irvin

Desire of Nations

Scripture: Haggai 2: 6-7 (KJV) and Luke 2:8-14 (KJV)

“Shake before opening” the label says. Sometimes you have to shake the bottle to get the sauce out. To get things moving. The Apostle Paul tells us in the book of Philippians: Work out your salvation with fear and trembling and you could add shaking, too. The Holy Spirit uses the things on earth—both the good and the bad—to shake us up and mix in what has settled to the bottom so that it can rise to the top. The Holy Spirit shakes, stirs, and provokes us to look up, to change, to do what needs to be done, to course correct, to wait, and to find peace, even when life is on the rocks. This Advent, God is making way for the Messiah to come into the mix. Christ, the Desire of Nations, is coming to us again and giving us peace, giving our world peace, even when we’re shaken to the core.
