GETTING TO KNOW CLAY

Clay Whittington serves as the Director of Music Ministries for Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Clay received his Bachelor of Music magna cum laude in Sacred Music from East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) and his Associate in Fine Arts in Music from Lenoir Community College (Kinston, NC). In 2022, he was inducted into the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda (Beta Zeta Chapter). He is now working toward his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Arizona.

For nearly 20 years, Clay has served as organist and choirmaster in the Episcopal, United Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist, and Reform Judaism traditions. He has served as a cantor and vocalist for the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Annual Conventions of the Episcopal Dioceses of East Carolina (Eastern North Carolina) and El Camino Real (Salinas, CA), and the Washington National Cathedral.

Clay’s performance resume includes work with the Carmel Bach Festival (Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA), Carnival Cruise Line (Miami, FL), Pebble Beach Resorts (Pebble Beach, CA), the Thalian Association (Wilmington, NC), the East Carolina University Chamber Singers (Greenville, NC), the Tucson Symphony Orchestra (Tucson, AZ), and the Helios Ensemble (Tucson, AZ).

Clay is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, the American Guild of Organists, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.
