Mission and Outreach

Immanuel strives to respond to God’s love by reaching out to others in need – to give more than money, but to also give our time and our love to create a better world. We support several local, national and worldwide mission programs. There are lots of ways you can be involved in mission and we have projects for all ages.

Totes for Tucson Kids

Totes For Kids provides a weekend “backpack” of food to low income students in the Tucson area. Totes is a hunger outreach program of Haven Totes Inc, based at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. Volunteers from Immanuel pack totes for over 40 children at a local K-8 school every week. Immanuel also helps to staff the Haven Totes Food Bank one day a month.  We also hold a school supply drive each June.

Casa Maria Ministry

Casa Maria is an incredible local resource for struggling families and homeless individuals who need our help. Immanuel members make bagged lunches and drop them off at church on the last Saturday of each month (8:00 – 9:00am) and we deliver them to the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen.

If you want to participate – each brown bag lunch should include two sandwiches (no mayo please); one fruit item, and two cookies. Special note: If making a sandwich without meat, label the bag (PB&J for example). Donations of hygiene products, clean clothes and socks and other non-perishable food items are always welcome too!

Youth On Their Own

Youth On Their Own (YOTO) supports the high school graduation and continued success of youth experiencing homelessness in Pima County. They strive to eliminate barriers to education and empower housing insecure youth in our community to stay in school. For over 39 years, they have supported this unique demographic by providing financial assistance, basic human needs, guidance, and more. YOTO has supported over 20,000 local youth in their journeys toward high school graduation!

Immanuel provides financial support as well as drives to supply blankets, hygiene products and more.

Iskashitaa Refugee Network

Iskashitaa Refugee Network is a Tucson-based grass-roots organization that helps refugees rebuild their lives through partnerships with volunteers and local organizations. Immanuel supports their Harvesting Project—an intergenerational group of refugees from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East who partner with local volunteers to harvest approximately 100,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables each year from backyards and local farms. These foods are then given to refugee families and other Tucson organizations that assist food-insecure families.

Montlure Camp

Montlure Camp Council runs Montlure Presbyterian Church Camp, a summer camping program for Presbyterian young people in grades 4-12. Montlure Camp is a ministry for all to find and grow their faith in Jesus Christ. Montlure’s primary objective is to provide a safe and memorable Christian camping experience for children and youth in Arizona. Each summer we currently hold several weeks of both Overnight and Day Camp programs for various age groups. Each camp is led by a staff of Christian role models as they walk alongside campers on their faith journeys.

Compañeros en Misión

Compañeros en Misión is one of five ministry sites of the Presbyterian Border Region Outreach (PBRO).  As part of the Presbyterian Border Ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Compañeros en Misión focuses on church development and mission outreach working in support of three small Presbyterian churches located in the cities of Caborca, Nogales and Hermosillo, all in the state of Sonora, Mexico. All three congregations have demonstrated a membership growth during the last year.

The program seeks to build faith, understanding and relationships among Presbyterians on both sides of the border. As a joint mission project of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the National Church of Mexico, Compañeros is helping the Mexican Presbytery to enable the churches to become self-sufficient, self-governing and self-propagating.

Frontera de Cristo, Just Coffee, and CRREDA (a Sonoran rehabilitation center) together founded Café Justo y Mas, a coffee house that also serves as a drug-free and alcohol-free meeting place for the young people of Agua Prieta. Members of Immanuel support events at Café Justo y Mas.

Interfaith Community Services

Interfaith Community Services serves Pima County seniors, people with disabilities, and people in financial crisis. Immanuel supports ICS with periodic food drives for the Eastside Food Bank which partners with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to distribute over 1,700 emergency food boxes each month to low-income seniors, individuals, and families in need.

Presbyterian Campus Ministry

Presbyterian Campus Ministry (PCM) is a community of students learning what it means to be embraced by God, follow the Way of Jesus Christ, and trust the power of the Holy Spirit. Located at the University of Arizona Campus Christian Center, PCM serves young people beginning new lives as college students. An ordained pastor works with both University of Arizona and Pima College students offering Bible studies, prayer, midweek dinner, and worship.

Middle Eastern Presbyterian Fellowship

Middle Eastern Presbyterian Fellowship (MEPF) in Tucson, Arizona is an Arabic-speaking fellowship that introduces the Christian Reformed faith to Arabic-speaking and Middle Eastern communities. The MEPF receives encouragement and financial support from Presbytery de Cristo, the Synod of the Southwest, the General Assembly, and various congregations and individuals.
