The Discerning Eye
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (REB)
No wonder we do not lose heart! Though our outward humanity is in decay, yet day by day we are inwardly renewed. Our troubles are slight and short-lived, and their outcome is an eternal glory which far outweighs them, provided our eyes are fixed, not on the things that are seen, but on the things that are unseen; for what is seen is transient, what is unseen is eternal.
Have you ever looked at an autostereogram before? To see the 3D image found within it you have to stare at the image until another image jumps out at you. It takes patience. Spiritually, sometimes we have to look at things differently to perceive what is going on. This week we are looking at the human eye and connecting that to spiritual vision. We’ll be exploring how we can “see the unseen” more. We all go through trials and tribulations in varying degrees in our lives. While still engaging life here on earth, fixing our gaze on the eternal keeps our troubles in perspective. In other words, the future comes into our present to give us heart. So let’s focus like a laser on those unseen things that with the Spirit’s illumination they might become a reality in our lives.
