Sundays

11:00 a.m. – Traditional Worship Service

Music led by Choir, Piano, and Organ
Dr. Walter W. Schurr, Director of Music

Rev. Dr. John C. Tittle, Worship Service Pastor

Music in our Traditional Worship Service is led by the Sanctuary Choir, accompanied by organ, piano, and frequently other instruments such as brass or string ensembles, violin, timpani, and percussion. We sing a wide variety of world music, from traditional hymns, to Latin songs, spirituals, folk tunes, Taizé, and jazzy stuff that’ll make you tap your feet. We also have three handbell choirs of varying ages and skill levels, from 4th grade through adult.

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir, directed by Dr. Walter (Billy) Schurr, rehearses on Thursdays from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The choir provides leadership on Sunday mornings throughout most of the year and brings an extraordinary variety of music to our worship services. We welcome all adults who enjoy singing — prior choir experience is not required. If you can carry a tune and count to 4, you qualify! And, we welcome winter residents. We have several folks who sing with us for just a few months who hail from as far away as Iowa, Wisconsin, New York, Nebraska, Indiana, and even Canada.

Music & the Word Service

Our special services of Music and the Word center on a scripturally-based topic. They feature an eclectic selection of anthems sung by the Choir, instrumental music (frequently brass ensemble or string orchestra), and reflections on the Scripture by the pastor.  Organ, piano, timpani, and percussion complete the orchestration. Music and the Word is usually held twice a year, just before Christmas and Easter, at both the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services.

Handbell Choirs

Three Handbell Choirs welcome players of all ages and abilities. They rehearse on Wednesdays in the Sanctuary and they each play during worship several times a year from October through April.

Immanuel Ringers is a beginning bell choir open to children in grades 4–8.

Jong Sory is an intermediate choir for older youth and adults.

Los Campañeros is an adult ringing choir with advanced music reading and handbell ringing skills.

Resources

Our sanctuary is equipped with a 3-manual Allen Renaissance digital organ, a 6’8” Kawai grand piano, and two Adams timpani. We frequently supplement our music with a variety of percussion instruments such as orchestral bells, suspended cymbal, tambourine, steel drum, bongos, and djembe, many of which we are fortunate to own thanks to memorial and estate gifts. Our handbell choirs play 4+ octaves of Malmark bells and 3 octaves of Malmark choir chimes.
