Revelation: I Am Making All Things New
Scripture Readings:
Revelation 21:1-7 (NRSV)
Revelation 21:22-27 (NRSV)
Revelation 22:1-7 (NRSV)
Angels blowing trumpets! Monsters rising from the deep! Rivers of blood and lakes of fire, oh my! There’s nothing quite like Revelation in the Bible. It’s a multi-sensory book that tantalizes the senses: you’ve got colors, noises, journeys back and forth between heaven and earth, plus fantastical beasts that look like a cross between a Dr. Seuss drawing and a Steven King novel! Revelation is a writing that confounds, humbles, and mystifies even the smartest and most spiritual of minds. And that’s why we need it. At the end of the day Revelation encourages us to keep worshiping God and witnessing to Christ because of the spiritual reality that God is working everything out and evil will be vanquished and goodness will prevail! We are a people of hope in a chaotic and sinister world. We can persevere because we know how the end of the book ends–God wins!
