The words Mighty God on a simple background

Names of the Messiah: Mighty God

Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7 (NRSV)

Human history has been the story about the quest for power and the discovery of power and the harnessing of power: manpower, firepower, horsepower, steam power, wind power, electric power, battery power, solar power, atomic power. Each of these forms of power have brought us wealth and countless conveniences. Yet all these powers have been unable to free our hearts from the power of greed and self-destruction. The Messiah—Mighty God—provides a power for us that is lacking in our lives—SPIRITUAL POWER. Luke describes Jesus this way, that he was mighty in word and deed. The mighty power of the Messiah isn’t expressed with a fist, sword, or the barrel of a gun—but with the power of love that stills storms, forgives sins, and restores soundness of mind. When we see the newborn king, we gaze upon the human face of God.
