2021 Sandwich Making Saturdays
Immanuel is one of many organizations in Tucson that regularly help feed the hungry in Tucson through donations of sack lunches to the Casa Maria Free Kitchen. Located in the Santa Rita neighborhood of South Tucson, Casa Maria feeds nearly 1,000 people every day—local residents and homeless alike. Immanuel’s commitment is for 500 lunches every 4 weeks.
COVID-19 Adjustments: Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Immanuel members are preparing lunches at home for Sandwich Making Saturdays!
— Please bring your bagged lunches to the Church between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. on Casa Maria Saturdays.
— The delivery car will be waiting in the parking lot by the Witherspoon Kitchen to accept your lunches.
— The driver(s) leave promptly at 9:00 am to deliver our offering to Casa Maria.
What’s in a lunch?
— 2 meat and cheese sandwiches
— PB&J sandwiches are also welcome with labels (see note below)
— a piece of fruit (such as a banana, apple, pear, or orange), and
— a dessert (2 cookies, 1 brownie, etc.)
Meat and cheese sandwiches — simple sandwiches using only butter or margarine on the bread. NO mayo, mustard, lettuce, or tomatoes. Any type of meat or cheese can be used—bologna, ham, roast beef, olive loaf, sliced turkey or chicken—they all make great sandwiches!
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches — also welcome. Please be sure to keep them separate from meat sandwiches. Please mark on the lunch bag “PB & J” and keep those lunch bags separate from other lunch bags that have different kinds of sandwiches. The Casa Maria helpers store and distribute these lunches differently based on allergy and refrigeration requirements.
Will you help?
Here’s what your commitment would look like: It would take 2 or 3 hours and about $10-$20 to buy the ingredients, assemble the sandwiches, bag a couple of cookies, and put them in a brown paper sack with a banana. Then bring the lunches to church between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. every 4th Saturday.
Thank you everyone!
