Getting to Know Heather

Heather comes to Immanuel from Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, where she served as the Director of Children's Education for 6 years.  At TVLC, Heather was responsible for all aspects of the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs for kids age 3 through 5th grade, and the Milestone Ministries program which focused on religious and secular milestones in the lives of children and youth from birth to 12th grade.

Prior to her work at TVLC, Heather worked as a research scientist at the University of Arizona.

Heather holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University, and an M.B.S. in Museum Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  She and her husband have a 14-year old son.

In her own words:

Our family pets include a pug named Max, 2 cats (Poe & Nikita), and a turtle named Squish.

My hobbies are napping, reading, gardening, and photography, in that order. More specifically—
  • Napping: it's not a good nap if it doesn't last for at least 3 hours.
  • Reading: historical fiction such as the Outlander series or Shakespeare
  • Gardening: my garden currently has 4 types of tomatoes, 4 types of hot peppers, tomatilloes, and sweet red bell peppers.  I love to play in fresh dirt.
  • Photography: landscapes mostly, no people pics.
I love to cook with my family.  And I don't like to do dishes.

I've been to Japan and Germany and Austria.  I really like Austria.  Maybe I'll live there someday, but I want to visit Egypt and Scotland first. Too bad I get sick on airplanes and boats.  Cars too.  :(

I like to go camping, and especially to look for shooting stars at night.  And I really like to get clean in the shower after a long, dirty camping trip.

I’m not fond of waiting in lines.  I could be better with names.  And I only run if someone is chasing me!

Editor's Note:  She also loves Dr. Pepper!
